Our Story
Here's a little insight into where Drew Accounting came from...
'Control + Balance in Business'
This isn't just some flashy, business-esque statement that we've come up with, but rather a reflection of where Drew Accounting has come from.
Once upon a time, when owning my own business was nothing more than a distant thought in the back of my head, I decided to study a degree in Accounting. I admit, this must sound like the beginnings to every typical business start-up story. However, at the time I had just had my second child and probably had every excuse to lay my own interests down in favour of playing mum for the next 18-odd years. With the support of my family and friends, I was able to grind it out, finish my study and get to work with some great, experienced accountants, whilst still finding time to make the kids marmite and chip sandwiches and go on the annual family camping trip.
Fast-forward a few years to 2004, I finally had the confidence to 'give it a go', and began to realise that old thought that had been playing on my mind for so long - I opened the doors to Drew Accounting. In the early days it started out as me contracting to companies, working at their premises while growing a tax compliance client base from home. As business grew, so did the space I occupied in the downstairs of our home (much to the delight of my family whose rooms were being filled with filing cabinets).
After a few years in the home office, now with a couple of staff members in tow and business growing rapidly, it was time to find a bigger place to occupy. Drew Accounting moved up the road to 1 Garnet Road, Westmere. After 10 years working from home, I didn't know what to do with all the extra space; let alone the freed-up room we now had at home!
Fast forward another few years, and the idea I once had of owning and operating my own little business has ballooned into what we have today; an office, since moved to Grey Lynn, full of amazing staff members, a client base of incredible and like-minded business owners (now numbering in the multiple hundreds), and the same old, ever-consistent lot of friends and family around me. I've been able to see amazing growth in my own and my clients businesses over the years, and I am now of the firm belief that it is possible to grow a business whilst still enjoying all life has to offer.
Looking back; from working with other companies in their offices, to now being in business for 20 years, I've realised just how important it is to have balance in life. My own experience has proven (despite popular belief) that it is possible to run a business whilst keeping control over all aspects of life, and living it to the full.
We at Drew Accounting are so excited to be able to partner with you and your project and make it a success. Get in touch anytime and we'll do our best to make your dream a reality.
